Strings Standard · EADGBE
Guitar, standard
Low to high: E2 A2 D3 G3 B3 E4. Tune the low E first, then work upward — each string pulls the neck slightly, so a second pass is normal.
Violin, standard
G3 D4 A4 E5, in perfect fifths. Tune A first from the reference tone, then check each neighbour as a fifth against it. Use the fine tuners for the last few cents.
Reading the needle
Green and centred means you are inside two cents — that is tuned. Left is flat, so tighten; right is sharp, so loosen. Always arrive at pitch from below.
